Connect Linear
Give every AI client access to your Linear issues, projects and cycles.
Create the API key
An API key is a password that lets Cortex talk to Linear on your behalf. You create it once in Linear and paste it into Cortex — you never need to see it again after that.
- Open Linear and go to Settings → Security & access → Personal API keys (or visit linear.app/settings/api).
- Click “New API key”, give it a name you will recognize later — “Cortex” works.
- Copy the key immediately: Linear shows it only once.
Permissions
A personal API key acts as you: it can see and change the same issues, projects and cycles you can. If Linear offers you a scope choice when creating the key, “Full access” is what the connector expects; a read-only key also works if you only want your AIs to look things up.
Paste it into Cortex
- Connect AI page → Connected tools → “Connect a tool” → pick Linear.
- Paste the key into the “Linear API key” field and click Connect.
Confirm it worked
Cortex tests the connection before saving anything — on success it reports how many tools it discovered. Then ask any connected AI something like “list my Linear issues” and watch it answer from your actual workspace.
If the test fails with an authentication error, the key was probably copied incompletely — create a fresh one and paste it in one go.
